چکیده

Coping with lossy distribution lines has been an obstacle in control and stability of power networks. Often, imposing an inductive output impedance to the sources has been considered as a means to justify the commonly adopted assumption of purely inductive lines, which in turn facilitates the construction of energy-based Lyapunov functions. In this paper, we propose a measure to evaluate the inductivity of the resulting grid, and investigate the extent to which the output impedance can affect the behavior of the distribution lines seen from the voltage source outputs. We show analytically that the more connected the network is, the more the output impedance diffuses into the network.

Energy dissipation modeling of lossy transmission lines driven by CMOS inverters

In this paper, new formulations for the energy dissipation of lossy transmission lines driven by CMOS inverters are provided. These formulations are obtained using an approximated expression for the driving-point impedance of lossy coupled transmission lines which itself is derived by solving Telegrapher’s equations. A comprehensive analysis of energy is performed for both step and flattened ra...

Effective Internal Impedance Method for Series Impedance Calculations of Lossy Transmission Lines: Comparison to Standard Impedance Boundary Condition

A new impedance boundary condition method for calculating the series impedance of lossy quasi-TEM transmission lines is presented. Previous techniques using a more standard impedance boundary condition are typically limited to high frequency where the impedance boundary conditions can be easily approximated due to its localized characteristics in that limit. The new impedance boundary condition...

Standing Wave Oscillators for Global Clock Distribution

The clock signal of modern computer processors consumes a large portion of overall chip power. By modeling global clock network wires as transmission lines and manipulating their dimensions, the global clock signal can be transformed into a standing-wave oscillator that conserves energy and reduces skew. This paper explains the lossy transmission line model and explores the effects of matching ...

Detection of power oscillation and simultaneous faults using Clark transform

Distance relays are widely used to protect transmission lines. Sometimes, in these lines due to the occurrence of the oscillation of the power, the impedance calculated in the distance relay enters into its functional zones and leads to the cutting off of the lines. This issue can cause global power outages. Accordingly, in this paper, a Clark-based method for detecting the oscillation of power...

Novel design of a dual-frequency power divider using genetic algorithms

A novel design of a dual-frequency unequal power divider is presented. The design is optimized using a genetic algorithm based method in order to satisfy several requirements at two given frequencies. The method considers realistic conditions, since it assumes lossy transmission lines and unmatched real or frequency-dependent complex loads. The method can be applied in a wide range of applicati...
